CAP Molecular/Cytogenetics Inspector Training Seminar - 04/02/2019

This live training seminar is intended for pathologists, medical technologists, medical laboratory technicians, pathology residents involved in inspecting molecular pathology and cytogenetics laboratories.

Seminar Date: April 2, 2019
Location: Washington State Convention Center
Credit Type: CE, CME
Duration: 5 hours 30 minutes
Pricing: Free
MOC Category: Systems-Based Practice

This activity is confirmation of your registration into the CAP Molecular/Cytogenetics Inspector Training Seminar.

IMPORTANT: To claim credit and fulfill the inspection team leader training requirement, you must pass the post-test.

In collaboration with American College of Medical Genetics and Genomics (ACMG), the College of American Pathologists (CAP) has developed an accreditation program specifically designed for the unique needs of molecular and cytogenetic laboratory inspectors.

The purpose of this seminar is to demonstrate effective inspecting techniques so that inspectors will be more confident and comfortable performing inspections. Specific topics include the overall inspection process (eg, preparation, practical “how to” tips of conducting the inspection, and documenting the findings), as well as determining compliance with not only the accreditation requirements unique to molecular pathology and cytogenetics, but also the applicable requirements from the Laboratory General and All Common checklists.

The session will include recommendations for conducting the inspection of laboratories using the Molecular Pathology Checklist. Emphasis will be placed on the inspection of laboratories performing germline testing by Sanger sequencing and Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) methodologies. NEW for 2019: Worksheets for designing and implementing NGS tests for inherited disorders. The worksheets will provide practical framework and guidance for clinical laboratories Finally, shared checklist requirements addressing In situ Hybridization and array-based testing using the Cytogenetics and Molecular Pathology Checklists will be discussed, as well as other Cytogenetics Checklist-specific requirements.

As a result of participating in this training seminar, you will be able to:

  1. Prepare and perform an inspection using CAP resources.
  2. Use generally accepted techniques to produce consistent inspection findings.
  3. Identify deficiencies and recommendations and appropriately document findings.
  4. Identify compliance requirements unique to molecular pathology and cytogenetics.
