Description
With changing reimbursement patterns and pressures to improve value-based care, laboratory utilization has become a more important topic in clinical pathology. This exercise presents a number of techniques that are helpful in two areas: reducing unneeded or nonreimbursed testing and improving use and interpretation of laboratory tests to reduce diagnostic errors. Learn how to become more involved with patient care and increase your value to the health care team.

This clinical pathology activity is intended for pathologists and residents.

Objectives
After completing this SAM eligible activity and post-test, you should be able to:

  1. Identify factors that impact test ordering by physicians.
  2. Apply strategies to limit unneeded or redundant testing.
  3. Apply strategies to improve correct test utilization and interpretation.
